    Default Just gaped my valves

    Took me 6 hrs......Don't laugh.

    Good points:
Got to see the inside pretty clean.
Valves 7,9,10,11,12 Had there number's ingraved on them,so they must have had some work done on them???
Found a rip in the corner part of the air tube coming from the air box.
Car is much faster and the exhaust note is way deeper

    Bad points:
The car had minor ticking before, now it is 10 times worst! I have gaped them to 0.12.
Most of them were tight .09-010
Will adjust to 0.11 if fine in the morning, hope this helps.
One of the bolts have been striped, bolt goes round and round and does not tighten,What are these called, will have to order one from BMW they are closed on the weekend,I have put a drop of thread lock on the end hope it's ok as this is my daily drive.

I turned the motor using the fan nut took sparkplugs out.
Do I have to??or can I leave them in.

Well, now you have gaping valves! No wonder they're louder.

If they were tight before, losening them to the proper gap will always make them tick more. You probably have some valvetrain wear that makes them tick. It shouldn't be too bad though.

Taking the spark plugs out makes it much easier to turn as there is no compression.

You probably need a new eccentric bolt. Eccentrics and their bolts and cheap at BMAparts.com. Always start at one end of the engine and work your way down, that way you dont skip one or anything. After you get to the last valve, go back and recheck all of the others (turning the cam as needed) and readjust them as needed.

I adjust mine by (i think im remembering this right...) squishing the eccentric down on the .012 feeler guage (i think thats the one i squeeze it on to set it to 12) and then checking to make sure the 12 fits in with a little resistance and that 13 does not fit.

If one of the bolts is stripped, that eccentric probably came loose and is making the loud noise. Get a new one. If you need a whole rocker arm, it wil be only like under $7, but it will be alot harder to replace than just the eccentric of eccentric bolt, although i have never performed that repair myself.

I find it surprising that sealing the hole in the boot on the intake would make your car faster, as all it was doing was letting unfiltered air in and not unmetered air.

Good luck! Make sure those banjo bolts are nice and tight (but not too tight). My brother had to get a new spray bar for his M30 because a PO tightened the bolts down too much and squished it. There is a torque spec for almost everything on these cars, and its a good idea to use them.

    Thanks for your great replys.

It's not the hole I patched up thats making the car faster,Its the valve adjustment.

Is this possible? I'm sure it not just in my head.

Yes, it is in his head, or yes, it is possible?

I'm gonna tackle this job myself in a week or two.

Well today I opened her up again I thought I could add an extra washer so the bolt might be able to grip some thread.
Now I can't undo the bolt it just goes round and round both ways!
I did put some thread lock on it but the bolt is just to sick to push past it Nooooooooooooooooo

The eccentric can adjust its self as it sees fit,If it works it way around and close's the valve what will happend?

What do I do, Drill the Bolt off??

This is going from bad to worse.
