Default Doing my clutch, have ??'s

Putting a new clutch in the 540/6 on Saturday and just wondering if you guys can think of anything else I'm going to need. I don't want to be running from the shop to the parts house all day. I picked up a Sachs kit, but not sure on any little items I may need. Also, anything I need to know special before doing this? I've done clutches before and an e36 tranny swap, just not a 540/6. Any tips would be appreciated.

It is a good time to replace the rear main seal.

Do the 8s have a gasket for the seal housing? Also, did you get a new pilot bearing?

Yes. I just got mine from AutoHauz. It is a big piece of paper. I was surprized. When I did my 525i. I used one left over from a 86 325es and it is a metal gasket.

Make sure you have graphite lube for the input shaft splines, the kit should probably have it. replace the pilot bushing/bearing while you are in there, not all kits come with them. A wire toothbrush for cleaing the splines. I always dump the entire trans in the parts washer and clean it all off, makes installation much nicer, but its a very good idea to get all of the crap out of the bellhousing, a garden hose works well for this, just avoid spraying it into the input shaft.

P.S. your sig aways makes me nervouse, maybe its because I have a young son too. Your kid looks like he is about to get pasted. I always want to jump into the pic and snatch him away from the oncoming car.

My new gasket fro the M50 rear seal housing is paper. We'll see how long it lasts.

Thanks guys, that all helps. Clutch kit is supposed to be here today so I can check it to see what all is included. Luckily Mike is helping me and we get to use his shop so we'll have the lift, tranny jack, parts cleaning tank, etc. Makes life a lot easier on a job like this.
