Default Temperature gauge sticks at start-up

No real big deal (yet) but at start up the temp gauge doesn't move for a couple of minutes and then jumps usually to some point in the blue and then goes up normally to operating temp. How do I un-stick the gauge at start? Or just live with it.

    TIA

    Jim

Default Are you sure it's sticking?

It may just be that as the thermostat goes from closed to open, it lets a rush of hot coolant past the sender and the guage moves.

Mine kind of hangs out in the blue then as the car warms up, it quickly moves to 12 o'clock.

It shows no change at all and then suddenly jumps usually somewhere in the upper blue range. I have not had the car all that long (first BMW) but I'm certain it did not do this in the beginning.

    Go figure...

    Default okay

started out this morning, set the timer on the OBC.

and started watching the rise of the guage.

it took a total of @ 4 minutes to reach operating temp.

first few seconds the needle just lifted of the white line, then moved up slow to the blue and as it climbed to 12 O'clock it moved faster.

Not jerky or anythtnig like that.

Try watching the needle when you turn the car off, it should drop smoothly, then turn the car back on and see how it rises back up.

If it moves smoothly then the guage may not be the cause.
