    Default Placing OBC...

    Hey folks, me again

I've readed some post about the OBC, but i'm still not sure about placing it in my car...

At this moment I have the digital clock with temp readout... I have the standard BMW car alarm with infrared key. On the left of the wheel (on blinker switch). I have a BC button (for the OBC?).

Can I just get an OBC from an 525 touring and place it, and will it work?

I also was wondering if I can replace my instrument cluster by the version with the text readout (where is says you have low oil and stuff).

Anyone knows where to get cheap an OBC online? I've went to a couple of shops that sells used bmw parts, but they don't have it..

    Default I did it on a 92 525ia......

I had found an OBC for $30 on ebay. I took out the clock and went to install the OBC, then realized that the clock is about half the depth of the OBC. Two choices at this point:

    1. Buy a new bezel/dash frame on ebay ($10 - 20) used.

    2. Modifiy the frame and make it work. See http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/upgrade/OBC.htm

Since someone on E34bimmer.net had done it and wrote up a blurb on how to do it, I decided on option 2. If your not to good with a saw or dremel, then go for option #1. It's actually kinda fun to see all the stuff behind the face that you look at everyday. Makes you appreciate the design better.

The coolest part is programming the display on the dash and the hitting the turn signal (inward towards the steering column) and seeing the text displayed.

    Good luck.

The auction ended, did you buy it? If not contact the seller... Bavarian Auto Recycling is a huge BMW salvage yard, they may have another OBC. Ask them to price match from that auction.

No, I didn't bid on it, since I'm not very sure if it will work or not..
