318ti 5 speed preferably the sport edition. Probably lighter than the regular E36. Either way, it is a momentum car so you have to drive ahead further and keep the momentum up. Fun car to drive, akin to the original 2002.
I'm starting to drive ~100 miles a day and the SUV gets 13MPG and I'd like to keep the 200k mile mark off my 525i. I was thinking a e36 318is 5peed? I know I can get on http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ but those are usually way off...tell me what I want! O and i'd like to stay within the 5k price range.

Well i'm mainly worried about the tranny...I should probably get a replacement lined up, i'm not sure about the hassle of a manual swap...but I could probably swap in a matching auto in a day...ish. Its the GM somethin something...better go find out which one.Originally Posted by Dave M

Ditto on the 318ti 5-speed. Some people claim 34mpg, but 32mpg is more reasonable. Not fast but BMW solid and fun to drive, plus the hatchback is very usefull. You can get them used in the $4k-$6k range, I'd say minimum $5k for a good one with a lot of hunting.Originally Posted by NovceGuru

Sorry guys but I have to agree with Alexlind123...Maybe i'll take Dave's advice and just drive the doors off of it, my tranny will go eventually, i'll just deal with it when it happens....weeeee

a beemer bike would get optimum mileage, but personally i would look for a e30 318is, and i think that a e36 318ti with the sport pkg (m3 bumpers) looks great.
though cheapest would be to just drive the 525 of corse
Man where can I get one of those!
