Is it possible to drive without it on the expansion reservoir?

Brought in the lady's Focus today and they are saying the radiator cap is missing, and needs to be replaced for $30 bucks... ?

I would think that in any type of stop and go traffic it would boil over and you would definitely notice it.... But a lady (ducking...) may not...
