Default potential warped 1995 318i head

I bought a 1995 318i convertible for my kids and after 6 months it lost power. After about $2,000 of repairs, the mechanic tells me he thinks (note so far he hasn't been able to fix the problem) appears to be getting water in the cylinders (the exhaust appears to be stream). I gave up on the mechanics and took the car home. I plan on letting my son remove the head and seeing if it is warped. I did this 15 years ago on a Datsun 510.

Is there some other reason for the water in the exhaust?

I'm I suicidal in trying to take off the head?

Probably cheaper to just replace the engine completely. A low mileage M42 can be had for less than a grand, which is at least what you're going to pay a machine shop to deck a warped head and/or block. But head gaskets blowing are fairly common on M42s, so you could get lucky and just have to replace that and be done with it. Be sure to clean the heck out of the two surfaces, remove all dirt and fluid from the bolt holes in the block, use new head bolts and observe the correct torquing procedure.

    best, whit
