    Default bang from right rear

in the last few weeks my car developed a horrible banging noise, which comes from the right rear. it only happens after you straighten out coming out of a hard right turn. I have no idea where to look.

btw, I did take out everything (and i really mean everything) out from the trunk and the sound is still there

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    car is a 07/90 m20 525ia (gb25203)

Rear subframe mounts, rear pitman arms...The pitman arms are easy to get to and check for play, the subframe mounts will require you to remove the brace in order to see the mount.

The pitman arms are easy to replace, the subframe mounts aren't, you'll need special tools, and even then sometimes they have to be cut out.

You can see the parts and their location at www.realoem.com

Thanks for your reply. I'll check it out next weekend when I get a chance to get the car on a lift.

I took the jack out too; carpet as well ... everything that I could unbolt/take out of the trunk area.

Need to figure out if it's drive line or suspension related.
Does it happen if you coast in neutral from hard right to straight?
Does it happen only after you apply power?
    How old are shocks?

lol, thanks for trying, but I really did eliminate everything that could move. Took out the jack, all the tools from the toolkit, the carpeting covering the jack and crap, jumper cables from under my spare, the spare itself, the big main carpet, everything.

it happens regarless of if i'm applying power or not. i dont know if it would do it in neutral ... not gonna risk messing up the tranny (stupid automatic) while troubleshooting something else.

The rear shocks were replaced in 2003, at 142,000 miles ... so not even 40k on them.

Misfortune, ... we have some misfortunes. lol

Two guesses: a really bad constant velocity joint, giving you a rotational chunk chunk chunk as the bound balls jump, or a bad spider gear.. My E28 broke a spider and I couldn't figure it out until the spider came apart and I had to get trailered home. Dunno why the spider went, but it manifested itself for a couple weeks coming out of corners as a chunk with a braking feel - till it went bang with a braking feel. Took the spider in to the local dealership parts counter and demanded that they run it under warranty - after all, it only had a 1/4 million miles on it! Like having fun with them sometimes.
Maybe jack up the back and roll the tires over while feeling the axles by the CVs and watching for a jumping movement?
