    Default radiator swap

Replacing the plastic/aluminum radiator the second time in three years, and it's getting frustrating. Has anyone tried substituting an all aluminum radiator, like from Griffin custom radiator?

Default Nope, but the ease at which

the radiator can be un clipped in a new one clipped in, would keep me buying a BMW part. Rather than fool with a custom fit.

Who makes an alloy radiator for the E34 M30 3.5 liter engine? There are alloy radiators available for other models like E30, 36, 38, and Z models, see http://www.zionsvilleautosport.com but none that I'm aware of for the M30 engine?

Who is Griffin and where is it located? How much do they charge?!

Speed equipment catalogs like Jegs or Summit have aluminum radiators, generally order by size to fit your car, like circle track racer or street rod. Griffin is one brand, Be Cool is another. $200-300US for standard transmission. I've seen some on street rods, where the owner polished the aluminum to look really sharp. Seems like an alternative to BMW aluminum and plastic radiators that come apart.

BTW, I lucked out this time and the coolant leak I saw turned out to be the gasket between the expansion tank and the radiator end piece. $5 part, $100 labor.

theres no reason for these to be failing this fast, either you are getting crappy replacements or something is wrong.

ditto, theres no reason that a behr or nissens shouldn't last many years (i wouldn't bet on a csf, turd!), it came with a behr from bmw and that probably went 10 years or better, id make sure theres not something at work like a leaking head gasket over pressurizing the cooling system or perhaps a outside factor like missing rubber feet (common)

I agree. Logic dictates that the BMW part should last as long as the one it was fitted with form the factory.
