    Default E34 vs E60

Does anyone know why the E34 M50 motor makes more power than the E60 2.5L motor? I know you know, but it has the same layout and displacement and is about a decade and a half older.

    The e60 525 has 215hp, 185lb/ft tq.
I'm pretty sure thats a decent amount more than the old m50.

a little more power and about the same torque probably a more rpm dependant motor then the ol m50, it'd come down to gearing and if auto to auto how tight the tranny is in a drag id say

Ah right I guess I must have meant the old E60 525 then, the one that made ~184 hp, soooo I guess it shared the engine with the E46 325i. Although the new 523i fits the same question.

the e39 528i only had 190 hp as well, but a shiteload more torque throughout the rev range.. i know which motor i'd rather have and it isn't the m50, power isn't everything.

The tq difference is VERY noticeable between the m52 in the e39 528 and the m50. I want an m52. =)

As for the 523i, VERY good question. WHY is it less power and tq than the old m50? That is indeed very interesting. Is it simply de-tuned for economy reasons?

the 2.8 single vanos motor had the same bore as the 2.5 m50 but a 1/2 inch longer stroke, theres your torque, makes a e30 fly nicely

yes indeedy they can fit but then again so can an s50b30 and s59b32 crank, need tougher rods though, as you will get a higher piston velocity because of the increased stroke, but if you have a non-vanos m50 no problem the rods is that are bigger than those in an s50 hehe
