My dad buried an old 70's dodge pickup (aka Big Red) with his backhoe up at our cabin in NY after it finally died or he killed it I should say. It wasnt registered and was just used on the property.

Holy ****! So this guy had to pay for a whole new BMW when only his engine was wrecked, AND he ruined his backhoe, AND got a $15k fine!

And the video says one of the charges was "receiving stolen property". Does that mean they're charging him for possessing his own car, which he reported stolen?

    LOL!

Text of Article from The Plain Dealer of Cleveland:

Buried BMW haunts owner headed to jail
    Wednesday, January 18, 2006
    Karen Farkas
    Plain Dealer Reporter

Ravenna -- An Akron man found an unorthodox way to hide his BMW so he could report it stolen and collect $20,000 from his insurance company.

    He buried it.

Matthew Mueller, 35, was sentenced Tuesday to a year in prison for insurance fraud, tampering with evidence, falsification and receiving stolen property.

Mueller, who owns a tree service company, will reimburse Progressive Insurance and also pay $15,500 to the State Highway Patrol and Ohio Department of Transportation for their costs, which included bringing equipment from Columbus to dig up the vehicle.

"I guess it was a lot easier to dig a hole and push it in than to dig it out," Assistant Portage County Prosecutor Eugene Muldowney said after the sentencing.

Muldowney gave this account: Mueller decided to get rid of the 1997 BMW because its engine had blown and repair costs were extensive. Mueller rented a backhoe in October, 2002, and buried the car on isolated property owned by his father on Lynn Road in Rootstown Township.

Mueller then told an insurance agent that the car was stolen from Akron, probably by someone who found the car keys that he had lost. He filed a police report and signed insurance documents to get his money.

In 2003 Mueller, worried that one of the friends who knew of his actions might have told authorities, rented a backhoe and tried to dig up the car. He abandoned his efforts after the backhoe became mired in mud and water and was damaged.

Last year, after police received tips, the car was located and excavated.

"It looked like pancake," Muldowney said.

George Keith, Mueller's lawyer, told visiting Portage County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Kainrad that Mueller needed the money to pay business debts after one of his employees embezzled money. Muldowney disagreed, and Keith said later that the employee was never charged.

Mueller pleaded guilty on Aug. 30. He apologized Tuesday and brought restitution checks.

"It was stupidity and completely out of character," he said. "I broke the law and tried to conceal it."

Keith sought probation, but Kainrad cited Mueller's prior convictions, which he said included assault and disorderly conduct.

"I think these cases have disclosed a real character flaw," Kainrad said. "When you are in trouble, you'll do anything to get out of it."

In the video didnt they say it was a 1997 528, it looks like a E39... but yes that looked like a M60 engine cover. But the M60 was never in a E39, the M62 was used in the E39, did it have a similar cover, but that would make it a 540i.....
