I would change the filter and only the fluid that comes out with the filter change only. Change the filter every 30k after the same routine.

If tranny is acting funky, you gotta change the fluid and filter.

exactly. if you flush it the chances of the trans failing is a lot higher then never changing it, if you only change out the 3 or so qts its not so dramatic plus your trans will like the more easy flow through the new filter instead of having to suck it through a bunch of mud. Make sure to get quality parts, some cheaper aftermarkets can leak around the fluid pickup.

In my humble opinion, a change MAY do you no harm. A flush is a no-no. Even so, you may want to spread this over several cycles and change a few quarts at a time.

Mechanics I know suggest if it hasn't been changed, leave it alone until it fails. Even a drain and refill may end up dislodging some gunk that will plug a passage. Save your money now for the rebuild later, its' coming.

If you do change it consider using an additive such as Wynn's. The trans shop that just rebuilt my trans uses it on all cars they service.

never EVER use any additives! The only thing recommended is injector cleaners.
