    Default RPMs in 5th gear?

I'm new to the e34. Just bought a 92 525 a few weeks ago. I was recently running on the Interstate. I was doing about 80 in 5th and the rpms were sitting at around 3500-4000. I was not accelerating, just cruising. Is this normal for the e34 5-speed?

This is my first manual transmission car, so I'm not sure what's normal and what's not. But in my old auto, it seems like running at 80-85 the rpms were closer to 2500 on the Interstate.

It should be normal. Manual 525i's don't have an overdrive gear - 5th has a 1.00 ratio which results in about 6250 rpm at 230 km/h.

I think my auto would be very roughly like 3000rpms at 80

How about that! I figured they were like typical 5-speeds, 4th is 1:1 and 5th is overdrive.
