Default No movement in Reverse when the car is cold.

Recently when I start up the car in the morning, the reverse does not work and I have to wait a few minutes till the car moves. The car moves forward fine, it is only in reverse that I see the problem.
We have a very good BMW mechanic in town and had him checked it out. He thinks I should drive it now and go to him if it stopped moving in reverse for good. He will pull out and rebuilt the tranny for about $2K. The same job would be $3500 at the dealer.
Even though the car is in great great shape I feel it is not worth to spend 2 grands on a car that's worth about $4500 to $5500. What do you think?
    Any help is appreciated.

If you definitely have to rebuild the tranny, just sell it man. Anyway it will be difficult to sell it few years later... If you want to keep it another 15 years as classic it is a different story...
