    Default Instrument cluster bulbs

Among many more bulbs i may not know of, the "check engine" one is not working. The guys at the dealership "cannot" tell me how many bulbs i need for the instrument cluster. I've read on a site a while ago but can't find it anymore...there was talk of big and small bulbs.

Can anyone here tell me how many big and small ones i need? The car is 535i 1989.

Well, you might not have the one that usually shows 'PRND321', but that's only one bulb.

Look inside the driver's side door on the little sticker (should say build date as in Month/Year), or post your VIN number, and I'll find your build date.

thanks Torque. I'm at work now and will post you the VIN from home, but im pretty sure it's either dec.88 or jan.89, most definitely pre Feb.

Just by the way, i've noticed something on a photo of another E34 i've never seen on my cluster, its on the right of the "main display" at the bottom of the cluster. On the left is a little display showing milage, now - whats on the right? The photo showed E 2 message or something. I've never had that.

Default E 2 would be an automatic, it indicates that its in economy mode and in second.. you

don't have it if you have a manual.
