That's one way to spend your time and build something like that.
Yesterday was German Unity Day.
For Reunification-Day in Germany the car-marketplace mobile.de has built the first „Unity Car“. „Gobbi“ is a western German Volkswagen in the front and a DDR-Trabant in the back.
The pictures show the 400 hours lasting building process from the very beginning to the almost finished car. Gobbi was handmade by mechanics from the German „Motoraver“ Magazine. They welded and screwed the different car-bodies together and made everything functionally. It´s powered by a 55 PS Volkswagen engine and is able to speed around 145 km/h. The car works perfectly but it is not allowed to drive in public traffic. Colors are orange and yellow.

Amazing !
I wonder why they would bother !
Just because Trabbis were East German crap still means they were crap !
They would have been better served devising a new electoral system.
"I'm not the village idiot.
But when he retires I'm next on the list."
Well, it is a marketing thingy by mobile.de, the biggest online market place in Germany for used cars.
Probably cheaper than ads in TV.
Newspapers are full of it.
Great post Erich, I love the way the thing is in 'the appropriate original colours' too.Originally Posted by shogun
I'm sure glad it wasn't the other way around as the VW Polo has the most reliable running gear. The Trabants were awful in comparison, I think some early Trabant's even had 2-stroke engines...
Very original. HAHAHAHHA
