    ummm....double check the lugs (how much sticks through the back of the wheel) compared to the new ones, too long and they can go too far through and hit stuff...too short and tour wheels can fly off.

    If you call tirerack, they do sell the more common ring used for bmw's the e39 hub size to the rest of bmw line hub size.

    Aluminum is cheaper to make than plastic (no mold to create), so many aftermarket companies offer it. I don't recommend metal do to the issue Regal mentioned, Electrolisys. They will often cause more problems than plastic.......as for your finger width clearence, thats thats about right. I'd check rotors for warpage, and maybe a hub bearing, or tires out of balance.....the rings are just to center the wheel or tightening, no load is brought upon them at all.
