1998 E36

I'm looking at buying a '98 E36 4-door with a manual tranny. I think the car has a bad alternator and/or battery - I couldn't keep it running long enough to test drive it. When jumped the car started OK and idled smoothly. When I opened the oil filler, the cap had rust on the underside and around the opening. I suspect this is from condensation but thought I would ask around to see if anyone else has seen this. Another issue is I could not open any door other than the driver. Thanks in advance for your thoughths.
