And yes, no screws, cables etc. left over after we finished the job. So seems to be all installed again

Nice job Shogun... I know you mentioned where and how you got the material. Can you repost that link or those details again?

    Cheers!

You MUST use 1/8 inch headliner material and NOT 1/4 inch. WLS Headliner sells 1/4 inch for E32. 1/4 inch material will not fit contours of roof grab handles, and other recessed areas of headliner, and the sunroof panel will bind and stick with 1/4 inch material because there is not enough clearance. Most European cars use 1/8 inch.

I bought the material from a wholesaler in Germany. But the transport is quite costly. So you can choose any supplier, just make sure that the thickness is correct. Best is you cut away a small sample and send it to a supplier to select the right material which fits.
There is no limit, even fake snake leather will do

Well done Shogun! Removing the old under padding looks messy.

Default Nice work - What color did you use?

    Hi,

Not that E32s and E34s use the same shade, well, do they? My car is gray so the interior is a mix of grays. What color did you use on that job?

    Thanks,
    Adnan

There are plenty of grey, and apparently that color changed slightly over the years. My car from 1988 has a lighter grey than the one from 1993 we did here.

I ordered the material from Germany

    http://www.mah.de/

They usually only supply to wholesellers or upholstery shops. Send them an email and ask for their agent/distributor in USA. If you get it, let us know details.
To endusers they only sell if someone comes personally with his car and shows them the headliner material in order to make sure that it is correct. They have >1000 different materials. So a friend from Munich went there with his car (Same model/year) and showed the material to them.
The material I used you can see on my website under the repair of the headliner.
Headliner material from MAH I ordered:
2 Meter No. 10X440 with 3 mm foam. This one has a width of 140 cms.
That is the material for the headliner itself.
The material for the A/B/C pillars is without foam. No. is 10X420 and width is 148 cms. I ordered 1 meter.

I paid about 25 EURO per meter. Plus about 100 $ for shipping/postage from Germany.

But I am sure you can get the material from any good upholstery shop in USA too. Some in Germany even ordered the material and the foam separately. Upholstery shops for small ships/boats also might have the material.

Note that the material # above is the material number of MAH internally, not a BMW number. According to my old papers it was originally BMW light grey.

The only way to make sure is: send a sample from your headliner to a seller/shop, and they will select the material based on this sample.

    No need.
Go to my website below and you will find the instructions in English as well as much more pics. Including info for cars with sunroof.

And just contact the companies mentioned before and ask if they can deliver the right thickness.
From this company you can even order samples.
