with 172,000 on the clock id be wary of squeezing anything out of it over the normal

its a very open ended question, what would you like us to say? press the secret button under the dash that gives u an axtra 20 hp?
it depends what you have to spend and how daft you are, i mean u can stick a turbo unit on there but then for the cost you could get a bigger say 540 engine from a junkyard..

you dont get anything without spending big money, changing stock components gives you nothing to write home about, like air filters etc

Yeah, with 172K, i'd say get a lower mileage motor and do a rebuild with some goodies:

    Bigger valves
    Shrick camshaft
Find a good machinist to lighten up the rotating mass (rods, etc.)
    Chip
    And a ton of chrome.

Or find an m30 motor from a junkyard.

Unfortunately, ALL of the RD headers ever put up on ebay are for the M20 motor, I can't ever find a set for my M50

At least one of the two of us can put them to use. That'd be a good place to start.

172 aint that bad i have 199k miles on mine and i've been beating the **** out of it for almost 80k, i have headers, eat chip, custom oversized throttle body and airflow meter, bigger/better injectors and a little port work on the intake manifold, all of that crap id say added a good honest 25 hp, i don't buy into the advertized gains for this stuff, sometime in the future i am building a 2.9 stroker motor with all of the trimmings that will probably be good for between 200 and 220, just not sure when it will happen as everytime i get close to pulling the trigger something comes up

Have you thought about just selling the entire car and buying a 535 or 540 outright? It would be far less work than swapping, engine, transmission, final drive, wiring looms, etc.
