    Default Euro Smiley Lights

My car (being aussie) is fitted with these. But what is with the 'smiley' section at the bottom?? I know its a gap in the reflector or something...

Is it for an optional yellow fog beam or something??

    Gone but NEVER forgotten. :'(

I think it's a way to get better "fill" in front of the car. I had the US lamps and the euro lamps and I think the output is similar. The euros seem to have better fill in the front and a different cutoff pattern...similar other than that.

Euro lamps give a different beam pattern (and that is the reason for this slotted disk) than US units (Euro ones perform much better).
They have different design as Euro lamps use different bulbs. The Euro can have their beam levelling adjusted from inside the car. ( whether US ones do not have them).
Usually there is an auto level beam adjuster motor attached to the dip lights in case of the E34.
This is mandatory in Europe in order not to disturb the oncoming traffic in case the own car's trunk is fully loaded with heavy stuff.
The 'slotted disk' defines better the dark-light zone on the DE headlights.
From my website below some explanations on how a DE works and others

    Thanks Guys...

Now... What interesting mod can we think of to utilise this area in the headlight??

Conceal red and blue 'police' strobes for pulling unsuspecting/slow motorists over?? hahaha!!!
