I'll be replacing the open 3.46 soon.
I'm in Bellevue, WA, too damn close to Seattle.
According to the previous owner of my car, there is a 3.91 diff installed in my 530.
I really liked it in the beginning, but now since I am travelling more on highways, having the tach at 4,000 all the time is a bit distracting. How would I go about finding another one, or trading it for another? Anyone interested?
Isn't the stock diff 3.15 or something around there?
Thanks

The stock ratio for a 5-speed is 3.07; the stock ratio for the automatic is 3.15. 3.91 is a big jump from either of those. You should be able to swap in a diff from any E34 525, 530 or 535. In addition to the 3.07 and 3.15, you could get a 3.23 (from 530iT), 3.46 (535iM) or 3.73 (M20-powered 525iM).

you could have cheap or trade. Has 120K, worked fine, I swapped it out a month ago. Just needs side seals replaced, but you should do that anytime you have the diff out of the car anyway. No fun to ship (90 lbs), but it can be done.
