    Default OEM stereo static

Looking for some advice with the OEM radio in my 1995 e34. I get a lot of harsh static when I adjust the volume. Does anyone know if its from the head unit, amp or speakers? I have read that the head unit can be the source of this. Any thoughts?

    Default need contact cleaner...

You can often fix that problem by removing the volume knob and spraying contact cleaner into the volume pot. If that doesn't work, you may have to take out the radio, take off the cover, and spray the contact cleaner in from the side. I've had 2 BMW radio cured with just the spray.

The Nu-Trol contact cleaner I picked up at the local electronics store worked for me also.

Mine does this too. It can be quite a lot louder than the music at times.

Can you just pull off the volume knob? I've never tried

sometimes you can spray in through the knob hole and it will creep into the contacts, usually it needs a better soaking to get it fixed good, after spraying the pot good with whatever contact cleaner or tuner spray you get work the knob a lot to work it in

My radio is the Pioneer KE-83-zbm. The volume knob just pulls straight out.

I've got one ready to go. I just need to find the time to pull the data cable. Also there's no power cable sitting there ready and I'm not that comfotable yet spicing wiring.

it's easy, splice into the wiring for the amp, it's right there and handy just find a switched and constant hot and a ground (the main power to the amp will probably be bigger then the rest) the amp circuit has plenty of power and changer don't draw squat, i like to run the data cable under the center console from the back seat, going through the rocker like the factory sucks hard, the hardest part about running the console is fishing the cable under the short carpet piece with a coat hanger, from there it's a snap
