that sounds about right, bimmer cams generally run $400-500 each and you have 4 of them

Donīt you just love driving a V8....Itīs a nice upgrade, this combined with a propper remap on the dyno turns the V8 quiete rev happy, especially from 3500 rpm onwards. I donīt know what it will do in the E34 body, but in the german E30 I drove last year it was a blast.

    Default You'll know because...

You'll really know the wear is too much when you can't get the correct adjustment when setting valves. That's the time it starts affecting things.

This happened to me so I bought a new stock cam for $169 from www.eap4parts.com.. plus cam seal and gasket set.

Another option is to get little valve caps that can on top of the valve stems- these are used when a cam's lobes are ground (or worn) below normal size to regain the adjustment. From memory they cost US$6 each or so from one of the older US bimmer workshops that grind M30 cams. On my M30 three of the the middle lobes went due to a clogged oil sprayer bar.. is yours the same? I ran mine with the valve cover off afterwards to check each lobe was getting oil. (messy bu thorough).

Of course I could have fixed it with much less hassle by popping these little caps on... I guess it depends how much you care- I'd use caps second time around.
