Thread: Has anyone used a Getrag 265 in a 535?

Default Has anyone used a Getrag 265 in a 535?

I just bought a 1991 535 5-speed that needs a new transmission. I have a spare Getrag 265 (i.e. 2 piece transmisson/bellhousing from an 85 535i). Can I use this in my 91, together with the flywheel and clutch bits from the 85? I've heard it is possible but I will have to shorten the driveshaft 3/4"...any other issues? Which shifter should I use?

    Thanks

265 shifter mechanis, was pretty different in 85, the later e28 stuff was closer to what thed e34 ran. You also have the pickup sensors present in the earlier transmission. I would try and source the correct tranmission for the car instead of trying to adapt, its probably going to be cheaper in the long run.

There is a adapter bracket made for the E30 M3, which uses the 265. It allows the E34 shift tower to be used with the 265. I'm tracking down the part now and will keep the board posted.
