    Default Tire Size?

I am getting ready to buy new tires, and I need to know if its ok to go from the stock size of 205/??/15 to 225/60/15?? I have been told that I can not go 2 sizes up because it will be to wide and the tire will wear uneven? Should I go with a 215/??/15? Or is it ok to go with the 225/60/15? What does everyone think of the Falken Ziex ZE-512? Thanks guys!

You're kidding right? I don't know who told you that BS, but the truth is simple. Your car should have the same wheels as a 535i from 1989 to 1993, a 530i from 1994-1995, and certain "premium" package 525i cars from 1989 to 1994. BMW mounted 225/60-15 tires on the 535i ( all years ) and on the 540 ( 1994-1995 ), on the 525i it chose to go with the narrower 205/65-15 mounted to the same wheel for cost reasons and fuel consumption. YOU CAN INSTALL THE LARGER SIZE W/O ANY RESERVATIONS. You should expect better performance, but a slight reduction highway gas mileage. Te Zeix is a great tire, especially for the money.

    Hope this helps

    Default should be no problem

I did it about 20,000 miles ago. Rotate every 5,000. Tires wearing very even. This tire size is even shown as an optional tire in my owners manual. For a street daily driver tire, I like Bridgestone Turanza LS-H. Great wet weather traction

Wide tires may show uneven wear IF your car is lowered (resulting in slightly negative camber & the dreaded rear tow-in)

Just to let you know, I'm running 235 width tires... and they only started showing uneven wear after track day, they were on the car about 2 years prior to track day.

My '90 535 is not lowered and I am running 245/40 18's on it. No unusual wear and very minimal rubbing at very slow speeds when the steering is locked to one side or the other. When I hear it I just back off the lock ever so slightly and it stops.
