    Default doing rebuild soon, info help please?

    i know i post a lot of questions, it makes me smarter in the end haha. but anyways...
    As some of you might remember from other posts i was going back and forth between what to do, well ive decided to rebuild the engine and make it turbo (not all at once)
    I was wondering if anyone has found anygood sites for OEM internals, or even upgrades for our M30 engines? I havent even researched our engines too much to be honest to see how they are made, like our lifters for example, are the mechanical or a HLA setup? any performance cams? i beleive i read something like we dont have timing belts? i dont know, i have yet to even research my engine and its components i apologize. im used to other foreign cars like subaru, mitsubishi and mazda. this is my first BMW. so any help is greatly appreciated!

    You have 9.0:1 compression I believe. You have mechanical lifters there is no hydraulic conversion available. Performance cams offered by schrick and dinan i believe, many people here just get a regrind. timing chain needs tensioners SOMETIMES but never usually a replacement. the crank i think is cast but it could be forged not sure. the connecting rods are adequate. if you want lower compression headgaskets contact VAC Motorsports.

    and by soon i mean in may so would like to get all the parts to begin so i can knock it out on a weekend, i know a lot ppl "kick tires" per se.

    If you wanted to build the engine for a turbo I would definately get some JE forged pistons, and depending on how much boost you are going to run, 9:1 CR is good, but I wouldnt go much below 8.5:1 unless you are going to make this thing a monster. You really dont want hotter cams for a turbo build, and if anything you may want to retard timing a bit. Maybe some bigger valves, and dual valvsprings, to help with high revs and the turbo. Oh, and dont forget ARP head studs instead of the stock head bolts. Some of the better sights for engine internals are www.kormanfastbmw.com and www.vacmotorsports.com although vac deals more with the M50 motor, Korman has many pieces for the M30. It all depends how much money you want to sink into the build, you can make your M30 push out 700hp or more if you want to. Speed cost money, how fast do you wanna go?

    Itīs al about money isnīt it ?
    For a turbo set up on a M30 engine, you really don' t need to upgrade to forged pistons. It' s important that all bearings, pistonrings front and rear seals are in good shape. Your' re gonna rebuild it so that should be no issue. I completely agree with BJL on the cam issue. A faster cam in a turbo set up would only kill the performance unless you should use a cam with a higher inlet lift, but with limited duration. Stronger headbolts is a very good suggestion. The headgasket could be replaced by a race spec one with normal thickness. 9:1 comp is really enough to reach 280-290 at the crank with a intercooled set up.
    Be sure to ge the right info on torque settings for the headstruts and bearing bolts.

    where can i get the right info for those torque specs? is there a real good manual out there? not sure how fast exactly but i would like to get around 320-350hp i figure with those numbers i can lighten it up alot and it would be good, then from there do suspension. I am willing to sink a good $2500 in parts, not including the turbo set up which i am still looking into, possibly just building off an e23 setup.

    whats metric mechanic?

    i figure i will clean up the head some, replace valves, valve springs (dual) maybe a 3angle valve grind done, forged pistons, total seal rings, get new rods and so forth.

    anyone know of any good OEM distributors for weather seals, and fog light lens', and then theres the plastic/rubber molding at the bottom of the door, like very bottom, blah dont know what to call it. i would also like to look up some axles and such, might as well get new ones because my car is about to hit the big 200k and dont want to run that much HP on old axles.
