    Default Tailgate Releases in Reverse

Last weekend my '93 525 Touring developed a strange quirk. Whenever I move the automatic transmission to selector to Reverse, the tailgate pops open and I get a "Trunklid" warning on the OBC. If I move it quickly through "R" it doesn't happen.

What's wrong? How can I fix it?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Default You've got a short in the tailgate wiring harness-

You've got a short in the tailgate wiring harness-when you hit reverse, it's sending power to the hatch release solenoid.

Take a look at Bruno's web site, there are intructions there about how to dig in and patch the harness. You will be shocked at what skinny-guage wire they used back there.

Micah, good point. Maybe when the reverse lights go on its shorting to the release. Guess they do correlate after all.
