    Default 535i 540i differences?

i own a 89 535i and she has some problems, ive been thinking about trading or selling and buying a 540i maybe a 94-95. what are some of the differences? i know the 540i came with the 8cyl right? and i've seen some around, they must be a little wider, and longer right? i hope so.
my car has too many issues to address i think. bouncing speedo, bad fusible link, my wireharness too scared to touch it with cut wires here and there like someone went to town. body needs addressing, 200kmi. list goes on...

Default all e34s have the same basic body dimensions....

the differences are the engines and interior/exterior upgrades as the model years went by. There is no e34 "iL" like in the 7 series...in fact only the 7 series have a multiple wheelbase. Even the e34 Touring has basically the same body dimensions (absent a trunk) as the sedan.

2 cylinders, 75 hp, 70 lbs of torque. Wider grill and wider lines on the hood. Everything else should be the same.

Just gonna give up on it like that, eh?

Personally...I'd keep the 535, fix it up. I've been doing that, and yeah - it has cost a lot of money..but I've learned a lot, and there's a distinct satisfaction that comes from knowing that *I* did it.

Plus, with the early M60's....there's the oil pump bolts issue, the nikasil dilemma, and the fact that you can't run regular gas through it. All definitely points to consider.

    best, whit

i was unaware there was an oil pump bolt issue. i keep changing my mind haha, but when i come out in the morning and open my door and see it, im like "ya ill fix it" blah who knows. Im just wondering if i can find a means of good power while doing my rebuild. I was thinking about trasfering in the 8cyl from the 540i but thought that would be too much work, now considering an engine rebuild, and about to start looking for a supercharger, if thats even possible, im sure its not unless its completely custom.
and if someone can tell me how to to find the seidl tuning bodykit then ill do it for sure ha maybe one of these days ill try and track it down, but i could never find a place to buy it though.

    Default Stick with the six

If you plan on working on the car and enjoying it.

The Vs are fun to drive...But I always find that to work on them it is twice the trouble. 2x the head gaskets, cams, valve covers Etc.

I find the ol' straight six is a joy to work on. And hell my OBC tells me I am only doing 19 MPH on average anyway.

Maybe a KKK turbo from the 745? Not sure that it's a very reliable setup, but what do you expect...should get you up to ~ 280hp without modifications and cost in the area of $1000.
