Default Used Mobil 1 ATF in 95 525i tranny

Today, I had my indy put in amost 8 quarts (empty about 8.8 quarts) of Mobil synthetic atf with a new filter kit. They drained and cleaned both pans and blew air through the oil cooler lines to remove as much of the old fluid as possible. They left the old atf in the torque converter as there is no drain. Note, they did not flush, they drained.

BTW, the trany had been serviced about 31,000 miles ago. While I did not notice a problem before the change, It seems as if the trany now shifts smoother and has a bit more pep off the line.
    Thanks,

as long as you change it periodicly it will be fine. The trouble starts when people completly flush a 150k mile trans and use new stuff. It kind of has to be a gradual change not a dramatic one. If your trans wasnt burnt smelling it might actually be beneficial to have left a little in there.

    Default I hear you,

The PO went about 76,000 and no changing of the ATF. I was a bit worried when I first changed it 31,000 miles ago. This time I thought I would give synthetic a try. Now all oils in the car are synthetic!

I sure did not want a power flush., especially from a quick lube place. I hear a flush even with experienced techs can cause a lot of problems

I used the "royal purple" full synthetic in mine. I read that all dextron lll is synthetic but when I was reading the bottles some definetly didnt brag the synthetic point, which I think they would if it was. The royal stuff was only like 4 bux a quart from the overpriced autoparts joint right next door. talk about convenience...last engine oil change cost me 60 bux! 15 bux for a filter, but they did have it in stock and I was going over 10k on the last change so despiration and warm weather took presidence.
