I bought mine from a local dealer for around $20 and they are the same thing. I have had them in now for 6 months and they look great! I am almost 100% sure that this is how they come from BMW. Hope this helps.
Hey Guys,
I just received the first of my incoming parts shipments.
I've a question for you all about the replacement emblems.
I ordered new emblems for my 5er and while the disk itself is metal, the backing (with the rivets) is chromed plastic.
Will these last or should I send them back and buy elsewhere? I haven't pulled the old ones yet so I don't know if they have a plastic back, but I have to tell you I was bummed out when I realized it.
For those of you who don't need a front plate BavAuto has a "filler piece" that replaces the license plate holder so you don't have a bucktooth bimmer. Part# 51 11 1978 089 for $13.95.

BMA, mate
This wasn't always the case. There was a time when Metal backed roundels were available. They went NLA a long time ago but parts were still floating around for a while. About 4 years ago the supply supposedly dried up.
No big deal, the plastic ones are cheaper and look the same, they do tend to need to be replaced more often though.
I was looking for new main and wheel emblems.Originally Posted by lowell
i couldn't find them on BMA. That's why I went with Bavauto. Next time I'll call and talk to Yves.

oh, they've got them...price might not be as good as on eBay, but these days, I prefer to just call up Patrick and give him a bunch of part numbers.
Mine are plastic also, but my original ones were too, so meh.
OEM ones are made like that, I'm sure BavAuto only carries the OEM ones.
