digital odo display problem

hi all, just found this site, looks very helpful.

I have a '95 e34 525i sport auto, all is fine except the digital odo display, just the top line the display somtimes won't show for a while then it pops back and all is ok, any ideas?

might be a bad connection. mine used to do that and if i pushed the bottom of the gauge cluster it would appear back on the screen. sometimes it would only light up very faint as well. just an idea though...
