Default E30 Cabrio Wet Rear Floor

I just spent a few minutes looking at my son's 1991 318ic that has been parked outside all winter. There's a wet spot on carpet on the driver's side in the back seat floor. No drips or direct leaks apparent. Top is in tact and well sealed. Trunk is bone dry all around. I am thinking the water may have gotten in through the opening where the top stows. I didn't have time to troublleshoot.
Anyone have experience with the same kind of thing oe have a suggestion?

Sorry, no idea, but interested as I have a '89 325i cabrio and am curious about top leaks as well. The obvious suggestion in his case is (if the car is a keeper) to either tarp it or garage it if it is going to sit outside all winter.
Still looking for a great forum for us e30 cabrio owners...
