    Default seatback won't adjust

89 525 with power seats, when I try to adjust the driver side seatback only the left side moves, does this thing have two motors? any idea how to get both sides to work?

There is a write up on Bruno's site about the seat twist, and Winfred has one too if you search the archives you'll probably find it.

Basically the cable that connects the motor to the seat adjusting gear has an inner metal rod and an outer rubber sheath. The sheath grows relative to the inner rod over time, and the rod disengages at the motor. The fix is to cut a bit of material off the rubber outer sheath and reassemble. Pretty easy to do.

In fact, this was my first E34 repair, so many moons ago. Ahhh, the good old days, before I knew about blue coolant and thrust arms...

    Good luck,

Haha..I've got the same problem mate, only worse: my seatback has twist AND the gearbox is stripped out so the thing doesn't even move. Kinda a pain. I'm going to repair it when I recondition the leather in a few weeks...

    good luck!

    best, whit

If you arent very mechanical you should be able to pull the seat and repair it in about 2-3 hours. Once you do one you can do any others in no time.

Thanks for all the help, is this the joyfull life of E34 ownership? as to the question about mechanical ability....well I have a deep dark secret. I am a Jet Aircraft Mechanic by trade, I can fix a multi milloin doller airplane but I can barely change a tire on a car (i'm working on correcting this) so I guess fixing the seat will be interesting. Again thanks for all input.
