    Default shift knob (big pic)

Ok, time for another newbie question.

How do I remove the shift knob (manual transmission)?
I've tried pulling it but I'm afraid of damaging the shifter.

It's an illuminated knob so I'm trying to figure out where to
get the power from. It came with a wiring harness, but where
do I connect it? Maybe the interior light dimmer?

use about 80 lbs of force pulling directly up.

I think powering it involves rigging the power up to another source - I'm pretty sure Bruno's site has the procedure.

Where can I see Bruno's site?

Thank You. Even though I have an E28, it will be helpful.

Thanks, I got it. The wiring harness plugged right
into the dimmer switch, easiest install ever.

    Default Just curious...

...if the height of the shifter was lowered after this install or was it just as high as before. This is the only big beef I have about my 1992 535i. So you are saying that the wiring is already in place for a lighted shifter then? Was it all under the console?

It's a original BMW shift knob so the height didn't change at all.

No, the wiring was not already in place. But if you look at the picture you can see the wiring that came with the knob. You just plug it between the interior light dimmer (beside the headlight switch) and the wire that goes into it. Then run the cable inside the dash to the shifter.

Looks like a classy mod. Can I ask how much you got it for and was that the lowest price you could find?...or did you (gasp..) go to the dealer?

Yeah, it goes really well with the black leather interior.

    Here's the one I bought, that's about $90: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...958651091&rd=1

It was the cheapest illuminated original bmw knob I could find (in europe). I didn't ask the dealer but I'm guessing it would've been at least twice as much.
