Default Exhaust on my E34 535i is FUBAR

Yes, that's right, sprung a fatal hole in my exhaust and now my car is way louder than the SRT4 I had before it... and that car was LOUD.

I need to fix it because it drones at 2k-3k on the freeway, other than that it actually sounds really cool and there seem to be gains as well as improved gas mileage by about 2mpg on the highway.

OK so I think what's going to happen is I'm going to go to an exhaust shop and have them fab something up for $200, I was wondering if it would be worth it to have the cats/resonators as seperate bolt-on sections so that I can swap in some straight sections for autoX.

Anyone have any opinions? With this new-fangled hole it certainly feels like my car is revving more freely with less restriction and all but I just wanted to know if paying the extra money for bolt-on sections is really worth it?

I'd do a dyno before and after but that costs money.

Chances are $200 is not going to buy you much at the muffler shop. At most it will get you something that end up looking pretty cobbled up. The shape of the e34/e32 muffler is a major pain in the ass. There is an e34 M5 muffler on ebay right now for $99. There is also a guy selling a new Bosal 535i muffler for $140.

BMW factory exhaust is pretty efficent.

Yeah, but when I talked to the seller a few days ago, he told me that muffler is a mild steel aftermarket job, so don't expect much longevity from it.
