Mine isn't quite a freight train but definetly is up to par on the highways at 80+. Gonna run it at the track this summer for 1/4 mile times.

Actually the car has been for sale on autotrader for a long time, $23k. It was originally a 535i, Heres the link.

This car, and cars like it, are always for sale, on eBay or what have you, and are continually brought up on the board.

Hell, I watched one of these ("550i" w/ S70 & a 6 speed) being built in January; and I know nothing about these cars

'Scuse me for being grouchy, but what's the deal? Everyone's seen it before...

    Best, whit

Jeff, I agree...they are, but I mean....I think the novelty wears off after a while -- kinda a common practice to slap an M70/S70 into an e34, don't you think? I mean, *I'm* going to do it in the next year or so.

The cool thing about that particular car is the paint. I think they overdid the 20" alpinas (or 19's...whatever they are, they're too big)...

if they were chromed, I'd expect to get shot at while in the car's general vicinity, maybe while hollering at my wharties.

This car is in Finland, so it's not the same one.

True, there are quite a lot of these m70 conversions around (even a e30 350i), but I thought this particular one was cool because of the nice blue paintjob, the wide grill and the overall Alpina look.

Isn't the V12 similar power to the 4.0 V8 anyway? And thus probably slower as it's heavier? I believe the V12 is an old-technology engine (2 valves per cyl) meaning it doesn't get as much BHP per litre as the V8 with 4-valves per cyl and a host of other improvements.

If this is true, then what's the point really? Or have the V12s been tweaked to produce closer to the power they should have done in the first place?

It's probably more about the bragging rights than it being a sensible engine.
    I would've chosen a S38 for +300hp but I admit it'd be pretty neat to have a V12 in a E34.
