Default Has anyone messed with a Seiko-Seiki A/C clutch???

Can the Seiko-Seiki clutch be adjusted to set the free wheel gap? I found a replacement clutch at www.impexfap.com but rather pricey -- $277. If it does need replacing, is it a fairly simple proceedure with the puller tool? Mine is making an aweful grinding noise when it engages & will need attention soon. Other than that, the A/C system works very well & I hate to tamper with an otherwise good running R-12 system.

    Thanks,

Default Don, you set it just like any other clutch, with shims. The gap is

.5 to .8 mm.... If its making noise the bearing may be going or the clutch contact surface might be galled up...If you have access to (i suspect you do) a blanchard or a magnetic chuck surface grinder you can clean up the galled contact surface on at least one side of the clutch... the outer plate is a little harder to grind though.. and then set your gap with shims.

Thanks Bill, I'll take a stab at it. I should be able to measure & match the thread pitch & turn a puller adapter on the lathe. I have numerous resources in town that can grind the surface.

Thanks for the .5 - .8 mm spec, that was what I was mostly in nead of. I see now that Bentley gives the gap but in typical Bentley style, he offers nothing more on how to achieve it. I'll bumble along until I make or break it.

    Thanks,

    Don
