Default I'll take trailer pigtail wiring for $200 alex

shown is standard us male 4 pin adapter I am trying to tie into the Euro plug.

    Questions:

    Four wires:

    White: I know is ground
    Green:
    Yellow:
    Brown:

    Is green positive?
Which is left? Yellow or Brown?
Will I need to jumper the Euro plug for parking lights?

anyone? Sure would like to get the boat back to the house for some springtime mildew eradication.

hope y'all's saturday is as fine as austins is right now

I am afraid this adapted set up may not work.

"The European system and the error checking system in your BMW requires one light per lead. That way it can tell if each individual light is burnt out. If you combine the turn and brake bulbs in on circuit the system gets confused, as we do in NA"

    check this out: http://www.wt4wheeling.com/tech/4wire.htm

for a quick rundown of standard wire colors for the 4 wire plug.
Not sure about E34's but I used one of the "converters" mentioned in the text to wire my E30 for a small tire trailer to haul to the track, I just tapped into the cars wiring under the carpet in the trunk. It works just fine, no error messages on the check control.

Email me or post back here if you need more info.

Ok, so I bought a Reese converter at Lowe's. It has the flat 4-way connector with a built in converter.

"Wire for vehicles with separate amber turn signals."

    So now I have

    Green: Right turn
    Red: Brake
    Yellow: Left turn
    Brown: Tail Light
    White: Ground (vehicle structure)

coming out of the converter. ( I have a little helper covering the standard flat 4-way)

Should I give up and just patch into the wires, or do you think I can still try to hook it into the Euro plug from the first post with the schematic?

ps. thanks to rigmaster for the tip on the converter. Let's hope I bought the right one.

go ahead and hook it through the plug, no reason not to that way the trailer harness is not flopping around the cargo area getting screwed up and in the way

So just hook the five wires up to the Euro plug and give it a shot?

Green > Pin 4 Turn indicator right

Red > Pin 6 Brake lights

Yellow > Pin 1 Turn indicator left

    Brown > Pin 5 + Pin 7 Tail lights

White > Pin 3 ground for circuit of contacts 1-8

Can I split brown to both tail lights?

looks ok, it's been a while since i had to resurect a dead trailer for the boss, i think the colors are right, you only need tail light power from one sorce no need to split. generally trailer lights have two wires going to each, they ground through the trailer body, usually it's white = ground, brown = running lights, yellow/green = turn sig/brake

yes, but if you look at the euro plug, the tails (bmw side) are split right and left.

Or is what you're saying, choose one, because the trailer will light both sides anyway?
