More kelyess entry problems. I repaired the trunk hinge wires ecently and they look better then the originals. Everything was working great. At soccr practice I locked the car with the remote as I always do. After practice, as I was leaving, I try to use the remote: nothing. And so it was for abotu 2 weeks. I unplugged the control box in the trunk: Nothing. Then this weekend as I was gettign my daughter out of her side of my car (rear left seat) I inadvertantly hit the lock button on the remote. The car beeped and the keyless entry began working again for about 3 days. Then it stopped. This morning, i was taking my workout bag out of the rear left door and pressed the lock button and now my keyless entry works again. WTF! I am ok with knowing things will need to be replaced and that this car will require special attention but to have things work for a week then stop then start then stop is.
Any ideas? I am at a loss.

I experienced the same thing over probably 2 years - intermittent operation. But mine had several variations - sometimes it would lock without a beep, and unlock without the beep. Then, lock with beep and unlock without. Sometimes, it would lock, but not unlock, and vice/versa. Reprogramming the unit usually had it working for a day or two, then back to the WTF follies.Originally Posted by 1995 525i
So, about 3 weeks ago I pulled the unit out of the car and went after the connectors and dip switches with contact cleaner I got at the computer store. Waited a good long time to be sure all was fully dried out (most of a baseball game on the tube), reinstalled it and [crossed fingers] it has operated as spec'd ever since. It's a cheap fix to try, so why not?
Good luck.
