View Full Version : Electrical Problem with Throttle

I'm driving an 89 525iA Automatic transmission. Lately I have been experiencing what seems to be an electrical problem related to the throttle and engine.

This is really hard to pinpoint, as the problem comes and goes at random.

The CEL and Brake Fluid indicator will flicker back and forth and while this is happening the engine's power will flicker or jerk up and down. Often when this activity begins, the car will stall, forcing me to put the car in neutral, if I am rolling, so that I may restart it and continue. Sometimes when I restart the problem goes away and the CEL goes away as well; other times the problem will continue. This is reall bad when in a left turn in an intersection. (that happened today).

Any one got any suggestions as to what could be causing such a problem?

I checked the brake fluid level, topped up the engine oil, put a Lucas Fuel System treatment in the gas, and a gas line antifreeze (it's cold here in Toronto) among other things.

Can't wait to have an answer.
