Most likely not HID... they are those Cool Blue bulbs and comes with variety of price tags... Bluish/white light are not as good as white bulb or regular halogen... much harder to see... hence driving blind...

HID setup are the best if you can afford it...

is HID available for e34?

Yes. HID was available for E32/34 in Europe. However, it was very expensive, something like $1300; p/n available in ETK. If you really want HID, your best bet is to go aftermarket like here, where Dave McLaren details how he put Philip HID Xenon lights into his E34 M5. Enjoy:

get the xenon hid bulbs, i have them on mine and they really make the road nicer and brighter, plus they are smily elipsoids, so that makes the light wider. But yea i have HID xenon bulbs which make the light white not yellow and they are great. But when shopping for bulbs get the 55w or 65w no more may mess up your wireing, its a 55w that produces 100w of light.

of xenon gas. They are not to be confused with HID units. They supposedly give about 30 per cent more light than "normal" halogen bulbs. You will need to know what kinda bulb you have now nd its a straight swap.Of course they are more expensive too.
