(i already typed all this and BAM. computer f-s up).
refering to the post the earlier discussion..
i just looked at edmunds.com for inspection II for a 95 525i in my area. it's listing approx. $850 in parts + labor (550 for parts).
but looking at the list, you can obviously see how much you can save.

Part Description - Part Cost - COST THAT YOU SHOULD PAY
Air filter $ 13.50 - $10.00
Automatic transmission fluid $ 8.96
Cabin air filter $ 43.90 - $12.00 (bought one from bma)
Engine oil $ 15.25
Fuel filter $ 40.30 - $15.00
Oil filter $ 8.70
Oxygen sensor $ 351.00 - $62.00 (http://www.pitstopautoparts.com)
Remote control batteries $ 6.00
Spark plugs $ 21.60
Total Estimated Parts Cost $ 509.21 - roughly 200-250 with all the shipping charges if you buy online.

as for the labor, most of it is really basic, such as changing oil or checking lights. even things like replacing the O2 sensor can be done by yourself. I do not know much about cars at all, but with your help, help of some friends and my stepdad, and a handy Bentley Manual i am positive that i can do all those replacements/inspections on my own..

I don't think oxygen sensor is part of Inspection II service, I think it only needs to be replaced if your mpg is bad, can't pass emmisions or computer throwing a code. It can be a pain to replace if you have a really stuborn sensor (like mine, just gave up and gave to a mech). Otherwise, you are right there really is no reason to waste so much money if you don't mind getting your hands a little bit dirty.
