Hi,

I have a 1985 325e that has developed a Power Steering Fluid (ATF) leak. It is leaking from the center of the passenger side rack boot and seems to get worse when the car is started as compared to when it is off. I have not been able to pinpoint the leak but my guess is that it is a seal in the rack. Also if it is the rack, is it ok to take the power steering belt off and drive the car that way? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mo

i removed the belt & drove it for 1 month like that. i have 205/60/14 on the car which made it harder to steer & it drove me nuts. i purchased a used rack from zygmunt www.bimmerparts.com in pa. for around $100.00. my old rack leaked at both ends.

Thanks for the input. I'll check out the site. Was it hard to install?

he gave me a an unbeatable price due to lack of work for his employee. it should not take more than 1-2 hours, but you will need an alignment
