I need to get power from under the hood for a 12V accessory. Where can I get it from? How would I tap power from the fuse box?

If you mean a constant non-switched feed then i used a ring style crimp terminal on the starter motor main feed to power an electric cooling fan.

An easy way to pass wire's through the bulkhead is if you remove the cover for your ECU,ABS control box etc you will see a duct/conduit type thing at the back(see picy),feed your wire through there and then through to the engine bay along with the car's loom.

Either way you do it don't forget to put a fuse on your feed wire !

What I wanted to do was wire in a radar detector. I didn't want it stuck into the cig lighter 'cause that just looks like ****. So I ran the power lead for the detector up the drivers A pillar and buried it behind the trim. It's concealed all the way to the fuse box, a little black tape in the door jamb. I then folded one lead over the Rear Defroster fuse and shoved it back in. I grounded the other lead to the Strut Tower and - viola! - a (visor mounted) radar detector that only works with the motor running.

I need to re-wire mine. Its going to the lights in the headliner, but being non-switch and my cronic ADD I keep leaving the radar on. It will drain the battery in a couple of days if I don't drive the car. Also now, every time I open the door it does off. Its an older DSP Escort - works great on x/K band !

I wanted power to the detector ONLY when the vehicle was running, hence my choice of the Rear Defroster Fuse.

to the sunroof too, I have no idea why I decided to use the lights anyways. I was getting confused with the sunroof switch leads cause it had power even with the key off but I just remembered that it would have power until you open the door...

under the hood would be the power tap that's allready wired and ready for a fuse, it's in the aux relay box under the hood to the front of the left strut tower, one's switched one's constant
