Playing around with the camera this afternoon, I think I caught the essence of Cosmos Schwarz Metallic paint. When they came up with this color, someone had to be doing something they shouldn't. :D

It's very pretty in the sun, blues, reds, golds and silver all draped across the black background. It sure looks like "the cosmos" when you get a little closer. ;)

Upon close inspection with a magnifier in the sun, it's beautiful.

Zoom in on the sunlit part at the top of the photo, that's what happens when the light of the sun hits it, it just explodes into color!

Just wanted to share this with you guys.

Enjoy!

ah... #4. Jr... I'm having deja vu here. Didn't you just unload like the cleanest M5 on the planet?

Jeff, you're so observant. It was just about a year ago, and I thought I'd never own another E34....until....about 2 months after the "Teri Hatcher" of M5's drove down the road this M540i Sport popped up. Sure, it wasn't the caliber the M5 was, but it was clean, very clean, and had been owned by enthusiasts that catered to her every whim.

I rolled Aubrey out of bed on a Saturday morning and said, "Get up, we gotta go to St. Louis and buy a car."

It needed little attention, the price was right, but most of all it filled that void that was left by owning the particuliar M5. Albeit a bit more rare in production numbers, the M540i Sport carried the badge of the M plus some. The V-8 Nik idles so smooth you can't tell it's running, power is close, not as explosive, it's more lineal. You still shift out of 3rd at 100mph, with 3 more gears to go and a 155 mph factory limiter. I have to say the best part is the suspension. The Nuremburg EDC III, makes the stance at least an 1 1/2" lower than the '91 M5 and the ride is unbelieveably smooth. BMW took a regular 540i Sport model and added an $8500 package to it in limited numbers to sing the swan song of the E34 M5.

The king is dead, long live the king...

Ah, so you've got a 540i M-Sport, not an M540. Was wondering as you list having an M540 Sport of which there really isn't such a thing. There's the 540i Sport which is usually referred to as the 540/6. The 540i M-Sport of which you and I own of which 135 were 6-speeders and 65 were 5-speeders. And then there's the Canadian M540i which wasn't terribly different than the M-Sport but was limited to 32 cars each of which was individually numbered when the M-Sport's weren't.

Nice thing about Cosmos over regular black is that it doesn't look like it's dirty already as soon as you finish washing it. It looks good for at least a day after you wash it...

Seriously I wasn't sure I liked Cosmos when I first saw my car as I was used to the Jet Black of a friend's '93 M5. Cosmos has a sort of dark charcoal look to it, certainly not straight black. But after living with Cosmos for a bit I like it a bit more than Jet Black.

My detailer though absolutely hates Cosmos. He usually sees in in E36 M3's as it wasn't offered on US Spec E34's except on the M-Sport's. Apparently it's not easy to polish out scratches in Cosmos.

Thanks Jeff....but photos in the direct sun aren't the same as looking at it. Cars aren't very photogenic in midday sunlight.

How's the newlyweds doing? Please give my regards to Sal (junior) hope everything is well with all of you.
