hey guys first post
i searched and couldnt find anythin so i thought i would ask
i just bought a 1992 750iL
for the most part its going fine
i had no problems driving it home from the guy i bought it from
when i got home i was playing with all the electronics (seat controls etc)
the last thing i used was the steering column adjustment lever that uses electric motor to bring it in and out

the next time i got in it though the seering column had a mind of its own it intermitently activating the switch and moving in and out sometimes all the way in or out but most of the time it just moves back and forward constantly only a centermeter or so

i thought it must be contacts touching in the switch but upon further investigation the drivers headrest is doing the same thing at exactly the same time the steering does
and when it changes direction i here clicking under dash like relays are turning on and off

it also does this still after the engine is off and key out

any help to track down a possible problem would be most helpful

thanks

hey guys quick update i have isolated the problem
it lies in the seat movement computer under the drivers seat
whenever im sitting on the seat it plays up
if i jiggle the wires coming out of the front it sometimes settles down
if im not on the seat and i jiggle them it does it still

could this jut be bad contacts on the plugs or the computer stuffed

Remove the seat and check the wire connections.
A good E32 forum is here
http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/e32
on the right side under related links there is the archive under E38.org/e32
Check there how to remove the seat.
Wiring diagrams are also there by built year.

On my website below you find the excellent

Seat & Mirror Memory Training Reference Book (1.04MB)

Download that and you have all the details.
