Urgh, I've got a fixed hitch on my tourer and I'm always reversing it into things...

Sweeet! I've been looking for that- even though the parts are self-explanatory when you fit it. Now I just need to find a new horsecock and I'd be fine... Thanks Erich.

Yeah I have the westfalia kit on my car. I posted pics here a while back. Piece of cake to install, and the horsecock stows away safe and sound behind the r/h boot panel

Cheers,

Shaun M

Great stuff.

Does anyone have the main part of the towbar for sale? (The big part that bolts onto the body of the car, part 1 on the exploded diagram)

For light use, how bad is the type below?

Here is an illustrated howto for a similar mount on an E39 but it looks like the same concept as the Westfalia on the E34: http://www.gunsmoke.com/cars/540i/hitch/index.html

that does not look very solid. In the country where I live every tow system has to be approved and they (the maker) gets a certificate about the load on the tow hook, load/weight with brake and without brake on the towed unit.

That is one of the major reasons I have not bought one yet. Thanks for posting this link. None of my previous searches had shown any of the behind-the-bumper design.
