With cooperation from the weather, this weekend hit temps around 60 degrees for the first time since last Fall.
The Christmas presents for the M5 were nestled in the garage awaiting the warmer weather installation so out came the floor jack and stands and in went the new Lemforder upper and lower control arms. I used a DeWalt 18volt cordless impact gun. It was able to break loose every bolt except for the 16 year old upper control arm bolt, I had to use the breaker bar on that one. Funny it didn't have any trouble with the rear pitman arms which are torqued to 90 something ft/lbs. Nonetheless, it sure made the job easier for the old man.
Finishing the job around dusk gave a good opportunity to test the winter project of the HID Xenon light installation.
The ride is now incredible....to say the least. The old original control arms had lasted 107,000 miles along with the rear pitman arms. Handling is razor sharp and the least bit of steering input is immediately transposed to the road. The maiden voyage of '07 was a sheer delight, and at night with the Xenon HID, I can see again! What a wonderful difference.....
I wasn't able to drive it for the past 8 or 9 weeks because of the winter weather, but it sure was good to get her out this weekend for the first drive of 2007...
