I have seen a 1982 633CSi - stick shift and the person is selling for $800.
The body is still straight but the paint is faded.
The front seats are not that great, one of the power window is not working.
The clutch release bearing has problems. When you step on the clutch, it makes a rattling noise, but no noise when released. Gear Shifting is still smooth.
Well guys...what do you think????

I dunno, for 800 bucks you are probably looking at a money pit. BUT by this time the car is completely devalued anyway... How many miles does it have? Check the front inside of the fenders for rust. Hell, check everywhere for rust... Check all of the rubber underneath. If you like a good challenge, and have some spare money; it could be a fun project. An '82 would be the old platform before they went to the E28 suspension. I can't speak to the good or bad of that, but the E28 platform is said to be a much improved suspension over the old. It would also have the "intermediate style" M30 head with the gigantic coolant passages and more prone to cracking. Although this head would be improved over earlier heads with more (10mm more) thickness between the coolant passage and the combustion chamber. I guess it really depends on what you want. Trust your instincts, but don't be afraid to have the car looked at professionally. Good luck. They sho am pretty.

uhhh it's a 25 year old car for under a grand, anything under 300k is almost low miles cep't for the fact that the odometer gears probably broke 10 years ago http://members.cox.net/wdixon27/lol.gif

You are right Winfred. But has anyone reading this thread ever purhcased a car without taking a peek at the odometer? And if you suspected it was broken; were you using ESP, or did you look at the odometer / then the car / and found that the two did not match up?

would for sure be a rust bucket. Even in your neck of the woods I would be wary, have it checked by someone familiar with the model. Really nice cars though, always liked 'em.

Good luck,

John

lucky pricks thats cheap, around here those cost 5k and upwards for newer e24s. I have heard that the e12 suspension is more resilient than the e28, that is to say the bushes are quite so weak as they are on the e28. I've heard people say its not simply a matter of the e28 suspension being "better". the earlier 6ers look nice and owning a 1982 m30 (e28) bmw myself I can tell you they aren't that bad.

I love the 6ers, my friend is building a turbocharged 3.5l M6.
I will probably pick up a clean 635csi down the road... but it will have to be 1985 and later.

The older ones are not based on the E28 like the "newer ones". They are based on the older E23 if I am not mistaking. with some weird suspension setup. Doesn't handle as well as the newer E28 based 6ers.

I seem to remember reading somewhere it was based on the e23 but my research led me to believe it is based on the e12.

Up to the 1982 model year sixers are based on the E12 platform.
1983 model year sixers and afterwards are based on the E28 platform.
1985-1989 model year have the newer "chipable" Motronic ECU.

Side loader diff? Can you elaborate winfred?

I believe side-load refers to the fact that the cover-plate is bolted to the side of the differential (instead of the rear) and the gearing loads-in from the side where the driver's side output shaft is.

I just looked at an 82 633 and it did indeed have the side loader differential in it (from the drivers side). Strange looking..
